On Friday, Jamie Lynn Spears posted on her Instagram story in defense of her sister, Britney Spears. This follows the release of The New York Times documentary as part of its newest installment of the New York Times Presents series for FX and Hulu, Framing Britney Spears. The film follows Britney's conservatorship, or the legal right other people—namely her father, Jamie Spears—have over her life and finances.

"Dear media, try not to repeat the mistakes of your past," Jamie Lynn wrote on her Instagram story, per Entertainment Tonight. "Look where that got us. Do better. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."

She also added to her story to clear up rumors that she was at a #FreeBritney virtual rally.

"A few media outlets ran a false story about me attending a virtual rally yesterday," she wrote. "In fact, someone represented themselves as me without my knowledge. I love my sister very much, but I was not aware of a rally, nor was I in attendance for a virtual rally. —JLS"

After Framing Britney Spears premiered on February 5, Britney, who did not comment in the film, appeared to respond on her Instagram grid. She posted:

"Can't believe this performance of Toxic is from 3 years ago !!! I’ll always love being on stage .... but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ..... I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!! Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives
