Japanese Fishermen in Taiji Caught Kicking and Abusing Endangered Turtle -- local authorities say they won't do anything, so hoping this gets some international attention.
My guess is that it was caught in the fish net. They likely used the smaller net to fish it out so it wouldn't go into the cargo hold down below.
As to the kicking... Well, dude was probably salty they had to slow down production and had to fish it outta there. Then they turned it over on the deck so it wouldn't go anywhere. I'd assume they didn't throw it back in because they have either more nets in the water and don't want it double tangled, or they're gonna eat it or something?
Gotta remember that these guys catch live animals in nets every day and are likely de-sensatized to animal cruelty to an extent.
