Alan Ritchson Knocked Out While Filming Epic 'Reacher' Fight Scene
Whether you love Amazon's "Reacher" series, hate it, or fall somewhere in between, you cannot deny series star Alan Ritchson's commitment to his art. Ritchson told Entertainment Weekly he was so insistent on filming a difficult stunt himself that they let him do it, and as a result he was knocked out for a day and a half.

The fight scene in question was a long, brutal showdown with Paulie (Olivier Ritchers) in the show's Season 3 finale. "The whole point is you just watch Reacher get ragdolled for five minutes straight," Ritchson said. "And I was like, 'This is fun. I like that this is the idea for everybody right now.' And I get the bright idea to shoot a stunt in a way, because I was like, 'I want the audience to know that I'm doing this for us. I'm taking one for Reacher and we're all in this together,' and so I wanted the camera to come up and just stay on my face the whole time while I get smashed through a table on the barn floor."

Ritchson says the crew fought hard to stop him from doing it but eventually relented. "I was like, 'I'm doing it. We're doing it,'" Ritchson said. "And I won. Reluctantly, they're like, 'You better not die because we said you're going to die, and we tried to warn you.'"
They did try to warn him and soon Ritchson learned exactly why they tried to warn him.
"I got picked up and we worked out the camera thing a few times and he slammed me through the table so hard, I went through it into the seventh circle of hell," Ritchson said. "And I woke up a day and a half later. When I came to, I had to tell my kids that I felt great, because they were on set, and I didn't want them to think that like, dad died and was going to not be okay. It was the worst few minutes of my life."
With this kind of commitment, it's easy to see why even Ritchson's costars think he should play Batman. Fans have been campaigning to get Ritchson cast as the Dark Knight, and even his "Reacher" costar Roberto Montesinos has made it clear he thinks those fans have a good idea.
"Reacher" is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
