Rape Accused Shoots Himself To Pin Blame On Victim's Family In Bhubaneswar, Arrested

The police arrested the man who shot himself along with two other people who supplied him with the gun, and were also present at the spot when the firing took place.

A man in Bhubaneswar shot himself in an attempt to frame the family of a woman who had accused him of rape. On Sunday, he filed a complaint at the Balipatna police station, alleging that two relatives of the rape survivor had shot him.
According to police cited by PTI, the man was recently released from jail after being granted bail in the rape case. He had been arrested earlier this year in connection with the case, and the self-inflicted shooting was a plan to enact revenge on the victim’s family.

“However, the preliminary investigation revealed that the gunshot injury is self-inflicted. He was arrested last year in a rape case. He plotted this episode to take revenge upon the family of the rape victim," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena said.
“The case was solved in 10 hours, and the plot was foiled. The forensic evidence showed that the bullet trajectory did not match an external attack," he said.
The police arrested the man who had been accused of rape, along with the two individuals who had supplied him with the gun.
The police stated that the suppliers of the gun were present at the scene when the man shot himself. Police have recovered the gun used in the incident, an empty cartridge, and four bullets.
