Thane To Experience 12-Hour Water Cut On May 21; Check List Of Affected Areas
Last Updated:
Due to pre-monsoon maintenance work, water supply will be suspended across various areas in Thane.

Residents have been asked to store water in advance.
Mumbaikars, Pay Attention! The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a 12-hour water cut across several areas on Wednesday, May 21. The civic body will be carrying out crucial repairs, including control panel servicing, transformer oil filtration, and other essential maintenance, at the high-pressure substation at Pise Udanchan Kendra and the Temghar Water Purification Center. The scheduled operations will be carried out under the Thane Municipal Corporation’s own water supply scheme.
Consequently, the TMC has warned residents about a temporary water cut scheduled from 9 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday. While the water supply will be completely shut off in the affected areas during this 12-hour period, water pressure is expected to remain low for several days following the repair work.

Thane Water Cut: Affected Areas
According to the TMC, water supply will remain suspended in Ghodbunder Road, Thane Municipal Corporation area, Vartak Nagar, Ritu Park, Jail, Gandhi Nagar, Rustomji, Siddhanchal, Samata Nagar, Internity, Johnson, and some other parts of Kalwa.
Ahead of the water cut, residents have been advised to store enough water in advance and cooperate with the civic body during the repair period.
The announcement came weeks after the Thane Municipal Corporation had announced another major water cut earlier this month. A 24-hour water cut was implemented in various parts of the city due to maintenance work by the STEM Authority, the body that supplies water to Thane. At the time, the TMC had planned a phased distribution system with its own reserves to ensure limited water access and also avoid a complete shutdown. Despite the fact, a few areas experience a full 24-hour water cut.
Areas like Ghobunder Road, Samata Nagar, Ritu Park, Johnson, Jail, and Kalwa were among the parts mostly affected during such suspensions. Days after that, an unexpected rupture in the 1800 mm diameter water supply line at the Jambhul Water Treatment Centre of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation prompted another water cut. An urgent repair work was carried out for about 12 to 15 hours, when the water supply to Diva, Mumbra, and Kalwa wards was shut down.
The suspensions come at a time when Thane city is already battling a severe water crisis. As per the civic body, water levels in the wells and borewells in Thane have been dropping rapidly, prompting officials to take preventive measures and restrictions. In a recent, all vehicle washing facilities have been closed across Thane until June 10.
