Israeli strikes killed at least 44 people in Gaza on Tuesday, the enclave's civil defence agency told AFP, including eight people inside a school sheltering displaced people. Israel has stepped up its military operation in Gaza in recent days, launching on Saturday what it described as "extensive ground operations".
