Accused in Bihar businessman Gopal Khemka's murder case killed in encounter, here's what we know so far

Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead late Friday night outside his home in Patna.
One of the accused in the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead in a police encounter in Patna’s Malsalami area on Monday night. The accused, Vikas, had allegedly accompanied the main shooter, Umesh, during the attack, according to NDTV.
Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead late Friday night outside his home in Patna. He was sitting inside his car when a man came close, opened fire, and fled. Mr Khemka was a well-known businessman who owned Magadh Hospital and several petrol pumps. His family had faced tragedy before — his son was murdered seven years ago in Hajipur over a land dispute.
Umesh, the main shooter, was arrested earlier. Police have also detained another person believed to have planned the killing and hired the shooter. Both arrests were made by a joint team of Patna Police and the Special Task Force. A senior officer said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be shared soon.
The high-profile killing has sparked a political storm in Bihar. The Opposition — RJD and Congress — have criticised the Nitish Kumar-led government over rising crime and poor law and order.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a high-level meeting with senior officers following the murder. He directed the police to act swiftly and complete the probe at the earliest. He also warned officers of strict action in case of any negligence, saying the rule of law is the top priority for the government.
The incident comes at a sensitive time, as the JDU-BJP coalition gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections. The government is now under pressure to show results and restore public confidence.
