U.S. beats Canada to win men's hockey gold for first time in 46 years
Forty-six years after the Miracle on Ice, the United States men’s hockey team is once again Olympic champion after taking an overtime thriller over Canada on Sunday, the final day of the Milano Cortina Olympics.
Jack Hughes was the hero less than two minutes into the extra frame, beating Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington with a hard, low shot after a cross-ice feed from defenseman Zach Werenski.
"It was kind of a broken play. I know we had three guys up on the rush," Werenski said. "Right as I was turning I kind of just saw a white jersey on the far side of the ice and I just tried to throw it over there as quick as I could."
