The Trump administration wished moms across the United States a happy Mother’s Day, featuring a video of cabinet members and their families highlighting their experiences as mothers.
On Sunday, the White House posted a video to X of administration officials and their families, including Second Lady Usha Vance, speaking on motherhood.
“I knew this was going to be the most family-friendly administration in American history,” said Rachel Campos-Duffy, wife of Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.
She pointed to the almost 70 children among 15 cabinet members, including her and her husband’s nine kids.
“The families are huge in this cabinet,” she said. “This is a cabinet and a president who cares about the future, who cares about making sure that the nuclear family becomes the most important unit in our society.”
Fara Sonderling, wife of Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling, pointed to the benefits provided to Americans, including mothers, by President Donald Trump.
“I think President Trump is the greatest president we’ve ever had for moms, not just the Trump Accounts, but the Working Families Tax Cuts,” she said.
The second lady also appeared in the video, describing motherhood as “the greatest privilege” of her life, highlighting the meaning gained through watching her children grow. Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance have three children and are expecting their fourth child in July.
Many administration officials took to social media to recognize the day, and First Lady Melania Trump also remarked on the occasion.
“At the very heart of America’s strength lies the boundless love and quiet power of mothers,” posted the Office of the First Lady, quoting Melania Trump from a Wednesday event.
The White House also took the opportunity to celebrate mothers “whose unwavering love, sacrifice, & strength help mold the heart & soul of our nation.”
“To the millions of moms across America–& to First Lady Melania Trump & Second Lady Usha Vance–thank you,” it posted on Sunday.
For some mothers, however, the day is not a time for celebration. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted to social media to honor Angel moms–those who have lost children due to crimes committed by illegal aliens.
“This Mother’s Day, we especially honor Angel Moms,” the department said.
“Words cannot describe the pain of losing a child. Knowing their child’s deaths were entirely preventable only adds to the pain these brave women face every day,” it continued.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins also recognized the mothers that have served in the armed forces and those who have children in the military.
“This Mother’s Day we celebrate all of the mothers who have worn the uniform and those who raised the men and women who defend our country. You carry the weight of service in a way few can understand, and your service and sacrifice does not go unappreciated. Happy Mother’s Day,” he said.
On Friday, Donald Trump hosted a Mother’s Day Luncheon at the White House Rose Garden for Angel moms and Golden mothers–those who have lost a child serving in the armed forces in the line of duty.
“Today we’re honored to be joined by many strong and truly heroic moms who have stood up for their children both in life and in a very profound loss,” the president said.
