Thomas Jefferson wasn't good at public speaking not because he can't speak but because he's soft-spoken. He can't raise his voice. Bad in a time of no microphone. So he relied on the written word on paper, handed out to Congress. But it'd be nice compared to today's babbling & screaming politicians.

Dumas Malone's 6-volume biography of Thomas Jefferson is the gold standard. Spending decades on this biography, he eventually won the Pulitzer Prize and Medal of Freedom. What other biographers merely regurgitate superficially, Prof. Malone went into detail and then some. Highly recommended.
