Google Announces the Release of Apigee X
Google has announced the release of the next major version of its Apigee API management platform: Apigee X. This iteration further integrates Google Cloud services into the Apigee API management platform, which was acquired by Google in 2016.
In announcing the launch, Google noted the ever-increasing role that APIs play in digital transformation within enterprises. Amit Zavery, vice president and general manager for Google Cloud, stated that:
“Because APIs are how software talks to software and how developers leverage data and functionality at scale, APIs are not just a component in the software stack, but rather products that developers use to execute business strategies and achieve innovation at scale.”
In light of this emphasis on API scalability, Apigee X receives tighter integration with Google Cloud CDN, allowing the deployment of APIs across 24 Google Cloud regions spanning from Los Angeles to Sydney. Additionally, Apigee X adds enhanced caching capabilities at over 100 locations globally.
The new offering also addresses a recent increase in abusive API traffic (Google noted a 170% increase over the past year) by integrating with Google Cloud Armor, the company’s network security suite. Apigee X also receives AI and ML enhancements that aim to “identify anomalies, predict traffic for peak seasons, and ensure APIs adhere to compliance requirements.”
