If you watched Super Bowl LV this year, a weird and intriguing teaser trailer for a new M. Night Shyamalan thriller, Old, may have caught your eye. Especially if you’re a fan of Lost.

Or was I the only one who saw a beach with creepy things happening and instantly thought/hoped, “Are they resurrecting Lost?” Which, yes, I realize would be hard to do with the way they left it, but…well, a girl can dream.

Anyway, Old is due out this summer. Sometime in July based on the info in the description that accompanied the trailer on Universal’s YouTube channel and from the movie’s website.

Which, speaking of, the trailer is posted below. However, in case you haven’t seen it yet, here are a couple of tantalizing bits to consider.

The first is the movie’s poster. It’s a black on white abstract of an hourglass where the sands form into a barrage of tumbling bodies.

Weird.

But also brilliant, especially when  you consider the second tantalizing bit, the tagline: “It’s only a matter of time.”

Well if that doesn’t sound ominous, I don’t know what does.

Old Storyline

A chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.

Cast

As Old’s website put it, “the film stars an impressive international cast,” which includes Golden Globe winner Gael García Bernal (Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Rufus Sewell (Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle), Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Jupiter Ascending), Abbey Lee (HBO’s Lovecraft Country), Aaron Pierre (Syfy’s Krypton), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Embeth Davidtz (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), Emun Elliott (Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens), Kathleen Chalfant (Showtime’s The Affair) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit).

Release Date

Old is due in theaters July 23, 2021.

Do you have a favorite M. Night Shyamalan movie?

I always look forward to his movies, even though nothing has really ever captivated me like The Sixth Sense did. Still, kind of like remaining hopeful that somehow Lost will be resurrected, the optimist in me hopes the next Shyamalan movie will recapture that Sixth Sense magic.
