Black soldier fly larvae?
I have chickens on my city lot and already grow all the green food and fruit waste they’ll eat, but I’d like to produce at least some of their protein. I’m considering black soldier fly larvae and have done some reading about them. I feel vaguely ill when I see the videos of big fat wriggling larvae, but I can get over that. What I’m concerned about is whether my neighbors will be inundated with black flies. Doesn’t matter that they don’t bite if they fly around in large numbers. Has anyone tried this, and if larvae are fed to the chickens before they mature, can the fly problem be avoided?
