On the search for land in Ohio to build a permaculture inspired food forest. What are your thoughts on buying land surrounded by farmland?
My husband and I are looking to buy land near Columbus, Ohio. To get the acreage we want, we are mostly looking in the rural areas around Columbus. Much of this land is surrounded by traditional corn/soybean farmers who spray pesticides and herbicides. What are your thoughts on this? Ideally, we would like to find a plot that isn’t surrounded or has a nice buffer zone of trees etc. but aren’t sure this will be possible.
I am wondering if anyone has successfully created buffer zones to help stop said chemicals from drifting onto the rest of the property? If so, what are your suggestions? How detrimental is it if your food forest were to catch this drift without a buffer zone? Any help is appreciated! Thank you :)
