New Sidebar Rule: Video posts are no longer allowed. Short gifs are ok.
There were a few opinions on our thread about video links, but overwhelmingly, users aren't fans of videos, especially youtube videos, being their own post. Posting a picture of the finished object and linking to the tutorial in the comments was seen as ok as long as a user interacts with comments and isn't a low effort poster. Low effort posts will still be subject to removal. (Low effort is defined as posting only your links to multiple subreddits, no interaction with other users, etc. Basically if you think a bot is making posts, it's most likely seen as a low effort post even if they are made by a human.)
Short video clips under 60 seconds hosted on image sites or on reddit will be allowed for the time being. Short clips are still subject to the no self-promotion rule, so they will be removed if they are hosted on social media platforms like facebook, instagram, or tiktok.
Over the next few months, we'll monitor how this video post ban goes, and update the rule if necessary. If spammers continue to abuse video links, we'll move toward banning them altogether like many other craft subreddits have done.
As always with new rules, there will be a bit of a learning curve. Users will receive more than the usual 2-3 warnings before a temporary ban, but if they continue to ignore the subreddit's guidelines, they will be banned and directed to more appropriate subreddits. I made an AutoMod rule for it, but it's not perfect. If your post is incorrectly removed, please let me know!
Also, we're looking for more mods! I'll make another post within a week or two, but if you are interested, start thinking about why you'd like to be a mod here, how active/helpful you are, and what you can add to a mod team.
