RIP Helmet, thanks for saving my life.
This is how it happened:
Crashed after going of a drop at about 40 km/h and overshooting just very very slighlty *cough. Landed in some roots and basically instantly lost controlled, suspension bottomed out completely flew of to the left front of the bike. At this point I was thinking I would probably wake up in the Hospital.
I hit the ground probably head first and then rolled/slid on to my back. I instantly knew I was winded. If I recall correctly my bike had bounce up to about 2m in the air. After that I was trying to breathe but it basically felt like I could only exhale and making a bunch of weird sounds while Inhaling. Took me a couple minutes to get my breath back and I found my bike 15m down trail in a tree but was relatively fine so I rolled down the rest of the trail. Apart from my back hurting and a bruise on my arm I have no further injuries. Given how the crash went I would not have been surprised to break some bones but guess I got lucky.
Decided to stop riding once I got to the bottom and while inspecting my gear notice my helmet was cracked, goven that I didn't even notice my head touch the ground I would say it did it's job well.
Moral of the story: don't go race pace on the second lap of the day.
