Unique things about Rhode Island
I grew up in Rhode Island and like most, am proud of the smallest state! Little Rhody! It has so many unique things for such a small state! Take a look:
RI was basically founded on the purpose of Freedom of Religion, as Roger WIlliams (founder) was kicked out of Mass (massholes) for reasons regarding his 'different' views. He believed in separation of church and state.
Roger Williams founded RI but negotiating with local Native tribes. Not by the typical take and conquor method
RI was the first colony to renounce allegiance to King George (wicked cool!)
1784 RI was first to pass a gradual emancipation act to abolish slavery (it didn't really work well but it was a start)
RI was the last to ratify the constitution as we wanted more protections being such a small state
RI is the only US state not to ratify the 18th Amendment of Prohibition (Pass the Narragansett's)
The US industrial revolution started in RI (Pawtucket) via Samuel Slater
RI is famous for their clams (yes, Quahogs) and we make clam cakes from them! Clam Cakes and Chowder in the summer!
Our state drink is coffee milk! Much like chocolate milk but with coffee syrup, kids drink this mostly, but all love it
If you've had an Awful Arful, you probably have been to RI! Another drink sold by a local diner called Newport Creamery
RI was home to the longest professional baseball game in history 33 1/3 innings!
I could go on!
