Father and daughter killed, 12 injured as truck rams into 4 vehicles on Pune-Mumbai highway

A 40-year-old man and his minor daughter were killed, and 12 others were injured when a speeding truck hit four vehicles in the Lonavala area on the old Pune-Mumbai highway late Sunday.
The Pune Rural police have identified the deceased as Nilesh Sanjay Lagad and his daughter Shravya, 10, residents of Shukrawar Peth in Pune city.
The police said a prima facie probe showed that the brakes of a truck going from Pune to Mumbai failed, and it first collided with an Innova on the same route near the Battery Hill in Lonavala on old Pune-Mumbai highway at around 10.15 pm. The truck then rammed into an Ertiga, a Tata Punch, and an auto rickshaw going towards Pune before crashing into the railings.
The police said Lagad was on his way from Alibag to Pune city via the old Pune-Mumbai highway when the truck hit the car, which was dragged a few metres. They said the impact was so forceful that Lagad and his daughter were crushed inside the car, causing their death.
Meanwhile, 12 others who were injured in the accident were taken to a hospital for treatment with the help of villagers.
A First Information Report (FIR) regarding the road accident was lodged at the Lonavala City Police Station. The damaged vehicles were cleared from the road and further investigation was on, the police said.
