Trump Administration Sued by Harvard in Federal Court Over Frozen Funds
Harvard University announced Monday that it is suing the Trump administration in an effort to stop a freeze on more than $2.2 billion in federal grants. The legal action comes after the university refused to comply with the administration's demands to curb campus activism and implement sweeping changes to its governance and policies.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration sent a letter to Harvard calling for major reforms, including overhauls to university leadership, changes to admissions practices, an audit of diversity initiatives, and the derecognition of certain student organizations. Harvard President Alan Garber firmly rejected the demands, asserting the university's commitment to academic freedom and institutional independence. Just hours later, the government moved to freeze the funding.
