Robust Measurements Show The Northern Hemisphere’s Atmosphere Cooled -0.6°C In 5 Years 60 Years Ago
Covering 92% of the Northern Hemisphere’s (NH) atmosphere, between 150,000 and 200,000 measured temperatures per month indicated the NH cooled by -0.60°C from 1958-1963. From the equator to 30°N, the cooling was -0.81°C. Climate activists have since eliminated this cooling from the record.

Temperature measurements indicating the NH cooled -0.6°C from 1958-1963 were so robust the National Academy of Sciences referred to the Starr and Oort analysis as “unmistakable” evidence of the ongoing NH cooling.

Reconstructions of North American temperatures also record a sharp cooling trend that began in the late 1950s (Heeter et al., 2020).
“After 1955, a cooling trend occurs for the next ca. 50 years until 2000.”

The cooling from the 1950s to 1970s gave way to a warming trend in the 1980s and 1990s. Since the late 1990s, however, the mean average temperatures of continental North America experienced another regime shift to cooling at a rate of -0.47°C per decade (Gan et al., 2019).

The North American post-1950s cooling was so problematic to climate activists promoting a global-scale warming scare that they admitted among themselves that they needed to use the Michael Mann “trick” of “throwing out all post-1960 data” to “hide the decline” in temperatures found recorded in paleoclimate reconstructions.

When it was determined that the NH cooling after 1950 extended all the way to Greenland, it caught the attention of overseers of the global temperature data. They lamented that the region of the Northern Hemisphere that “holds the lion’s share of the hemisphere’s ice has been cooling for the past half-century, and at a very significant rate, making it ever more unlikely that its horde of frozen water will be released to the world’s oceans to raise havoc with global sea level.”
This is, of course, the “opposite – and strikingly so – of that which is claimed for the Northern Hemisphere and the world by the IPCC and its climate-alarmist friends.”

To alleviate this post-1950s NH cooling problem, climate activists discussed ways they could reduce the warming that took place prior to 1950 to make it appear the recent warming is pronounced and unprecedented. So, in the last few decades, past temperature data has been changed to “strengthen the case for human-induced warming in the 20th century.”
