GitHub Marketplace Enhancements Improve Developer Revenue Generation and App Onboarding
GitHub has announced modifications to the GitHub Marketplace, a central location where developers can discover, share, and sell development solutions, that are intended to simplify application onboarding and increase revenue generation.
First up, GitHub is adjusting the revenue share on applications sold in the marketplace so that developers will now take home 95% of revenue generated. Previously this was a 75/25 split. This change is a reflection of the immense value of developer contributions to the marketplace.
Additionally, GitHub is making it easier for developers to get started by adding applications to the marketplace. The company has simplified the app verification process to three simple steps. First, domains will be validated via a simple DNS TXT record. Then the application’s registered email address will be validated. Beyond these two steps, two-factor authentication will also need to be enabled.
