A tragic accident claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy in Kerala’s Malappuram after his shirt collar became entangled on a protruding nail in his bedroom wall, causing him to suffocate. The incident occurred on Friday evening at the family’s home in Vallikkanjiram.
The victim, Dhvanith, a Class 6 student at Niramaruthur Government School, was the child of Manikandan and Divya. While alone in his room, Dhvanith’s shirt collar is said to have been caught on a nail in the wall. It is believed that the fabric tightened around his neck, cutting off his airflow.

On hearing his son’s cries, Manikandan rushed to the room and discovered Dhvanith in distress, suspended by the collar of his shirt. The boy was immediately freed and taken to a private hospital in Tirur. Following initial treatment, he was referred to a more advanced facility in Kozhikode and subsequently shifted to Kozhikode Medical College due to the seriousness of his condition.
Despite intensive medical efforts, Dhvanith succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Saturday evening. His death has sent shockwaves through the local community.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Kozhikode Medical College, and the body was later cremated at the Pottilathara crematorium in Tirur.
