Read Before You Post
*If assistance is needed from the moderation team, contact them via mod mail. Attempts to contact an individual moderator via chat will be ignored and a 7-day ban will be placed against your account. Also, if you are an asshole to other community members or the moderation team, you will be banned. Grow up. It doesn’t matter to r/Paranormal if you’re banned or not. It’s one less issue off our hands, and the community appreciates one less immature user.
Greetings r/Paranormal friends. Due to consistent flagged reports, comment and post violations, which result in removals and sometimes bans, and typical questions that come up on evidence submissions, we want to make a few things clear. Although any subreddit will recommend that you read the rules before submitting content, not everyone knows where to find them, or wants to read them. It is important to review the rules of any subreddit before submitting content to avoid removals or bans. Read below to see information on common violations, how to submit evidence, and posting tips:
Common Violations
Cross-posting: Do not cross-post content, which includes linking your r/Paranormal submission to another sub. r/Paranormal is only interested in original content, not content that can be found elsewhere.
Re-submitting content: Do not re-submit content that was removed during moderation, which is also against Reddit.com's content policy. In some cases, submissions with links, new accounts, and other filtered keywords, are removed for moderation approval. Do not resubmit because it didn't show up, as it will likely need to be approved by a mod first. If you re-submit content that was already removed, you will likely be banned.
Link Violations: r/Paranormal only allows links to be submitted in both the comments and post from wikipedia, Youtube (limited content), Soundcloud, and Imgur. Links to any other website domain will be removed. Increased violations by the same user will likely result in a temporary or permanent ban.
Video Violations: More times than not, users submit videos utilizing the wrong platform, full-length videos with suggested timestamps, or a video that does not belong to them (YouTube channel that focuses in paranormal content.). Video submissions should be of only the evidence being presented. Do not submit entire videos of ghost hunting, spirit box sessions, or other long video post. Only video evidence that supports your submission should be provided.
Segmented Posts: Do not submit segmented (part one, part two) submissions. Each post provides the user the max allowance of characters. If extra space is needed, it is recommended that you use the comment section. You can reach out to the moderation team for assistance if needed. If comments are being used to finish the story, the mod team can pin your comment to the top of the post so it doesn’t get lost in the comments.
Promotional or Spam Posts: r/Paranormal prohibits the promotion of any kind. Do not promote yours or others business, youtube channel, podcast, asking to use content for your own purposes, etc. This includes promoting psychics to assist others or religious websites of any kind.
Low-Effort Submissions: Users who submit posts with only one line of text, a link, or a single question with without engaging the community will be considered low-effort and removed. r/Paranormal wants users to engage each other on these topics.
Wall-of-Text Submissions: r/Paranormal prohibits its users from submitting posts to the community that don’t use paragraphs. Posts that appear to be a continuous loop of text without the use of paragraphs will be considered as a wall-of-text post. These submissions are harder to follow, do not appeal to the community, and will not be considered as acceptable content to r/Paranormal.
Users should write in paragraph form when submitting larger stories for readers to easily follow. Users who submit wall-of-text submissions will be subject to removal. Users who are identified as repeat offenders due to multiple removals are subject to temporary banishment from r/Paranormal.
Non-Paranormal Submissions: r/Paranormal is a place to share true personal experiences or seek advice and discuss further on those experiences. Users should not submit questions that pertain to ghost hunting, where you should take a trip to go ghost hunting, favorite paranormal podcast, channel, or personality, etc. This is not r/askreddit. There are other paranormal subs that support this.
Non-Personal Experience: r/Paranormal is a platform used to share personal experiences. Submissions posted about any experience that are not first-hand are considered non-personal experiences. Users should not submit content from second or third-party experiences, as the user was not present. Facts could be altered or the entire experience could be made up. Users who submit non-personal experience submissions will be subject to their posts removed. Frequent violations by the same user are subject to temporary or permanent banishment.
Name Calling: There is no reason for users to get into verbal altercations within the comments. verbal disputes that result in foul language and name calling will likely result in a temporary or permanent ban. If there is an issue with other users, please flag the comment or post, and the moderation team will review it. This violation is covered by Reddit.com's content policy.
Submitting Evidence
If you want to submit an image, EVP, or video evidence, it needs to be submitted via Imgur, Youtube, or Soundcloud, and then uploaded to the post. Try to avoid posting linked content in the comments, as it sometimes will get lost depending if the thread grows. See below for more information:
Images should be submitted on Imgur.
EVPs should be submitted to Soundcloud, although Imgur (if supported), and YouTube is also allowed. EVPs should be of ONLY the EVP segment and not an entire EVP clip.
Videos should be submitted on either YouTube or Imgur. Do not submit from monetized accounts or accounts that do not belong to you. Video evidence should be of ONLY the evidence you claimed to capture, not an entire clip. The video should be free of text, background music, and voiceovers.
Posting Tips
If you are interested in submitting content to r/Paranormal, we recommend the following:
Paragraphs: As of September 2020, it is now a violation to not use paragraphs when submitting a post. No one wants to read a wall of text. It will turn people away. Additionally, most users browse reddit on their mobile devices. A wall of text can be too difficult to follow when scrolling. Mobile users should press enter twice, as there is an issue with making paragraphs on mobile.
Tight writing: You can still be descriptive without providing too much information that may turn away readers from your post for being too lengthy. There are plenty of articles on the internet that can explain tight writing.
Post Edits: Edits happen, but you don't have to inform the community that you made one. You are not writing sourced material that would require proper revision notes. Additionally, if you are submitting linked evidence (EVP, picture, video) after your post was submitted, be sure to place it in the post via an edit and not in the comments.
Apologizing for being on mobile: There is no need to apologize for submitting a post while on mobile. You should be proofreading your submission before submitting it.
