For the first time in history, Costa Rica will host the North American Bird Fair, one of the most eagerly awaited events for birdwatchers, which attracts large numbers of tourists. The fair will take place from June 5 to 8, 2026, in Sarapiquí, Heredia, a destination renowned worldwide for its exuberant biodiversity and ornithological wealth.

This event will bring together birdwatchers, photographers, researchers, tourism companies, and conservationists from across North America and Latin America. The main objective is to celebrate a passion for birds, promote sustainable tourism, and strengthen international cooperation on conservation issues.

Over four days, attendees will enjoy talks, workshops, guided tours, exhibitions of specialized products, scientific presentations, and opportunities for cultural exchange. In addition, the fair will feature the participation of birding tourism experts and organizations committed to protecting ecosystems that are home to thousands of species.

The choice of Sarapiquí is no coincidence: this region is considered one of the most important birding paradises in Central America, with more than 500 species recorded, including toucans, kingfishers, tanagers, and hummingbirds.

The organizers of the North American Bird Fair emphasize that holding this first edition in Costa Rica represents recognition of the country’s leadership in environmental conservation and ecological tourism, consolidating its position as a destination of choice for birdwatchers from around the world.
