China ups the ante on trade front and then offers a glimmer of hope

China initiated an anti-dumping investigation aimed at Japan-manufactured semiconductor material on Wednesday, then suggested the following day that restrictions on the export of dual-use items to Japan would be implemented in a restrained manner.
In an announcement published on its website, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said an anti-dumping investigation of Japan-made dichlorosilane, a chemical compound mainly used in semiconductor manufacturing, was initiated at the request of a domestic manufacturer.
Then, at a press briefing on Thursday, ministry spokesperson He Yadong said that China has always been committed to the stability and security of global production and supply chains, and that civilian endeavors will not be affected by the dual-use ban, Xinhua reported.
