USA - wet trails.

This is a genuine question, I'm honestly not trying to start an argument... How come it's such a big thing in the US where trails seem to get destroyed, or there is a perception that they will be, if they are ridden in the wet? In the UK everyone rides all year round in all weathers, as it's only dry on the second Tuesday in July ( /s), and yes, some trails show wear over time, but it it's just a bit of the woods that once it gets to a certain stage people move on to other trails and it returns to nature pretty quickly. But even then, 95% of trails are run in the wet all the time and have been pretty much the same condition for the past 30 years (yeah, I've been riding a long time!). I've ridden all over Europe and the US, and it really doesn't seem that different. As I say, I'm not trying to say that this 'no wet ride' is the wrong thing, I'm just looking for insight and experience from those that perhaps live in those areas that have this rule.
