A Texas judge has imposed tight courtroom restrictions for the murder trial of a Texas teen.
On Friday, Judge John Roach of the 296th District Court issued an order outlining security and media restrictions for the upcoming trial of 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet last year.
Metcalf, a student at Memorial High School, was fatally stabbed at the meet by Anthony, a senior at Centennial High School, after telling him he was sitting in the wrong seat and bench area under his school’s tent. He died in his twin brother’s arms.
Under the order, no cameras or audio recording devices will be allowed inside the courtroom.
Seating will be extremely limited and security will be ramped up as doxxing and threats have plagued both sides of this high-profile case.
“I just think because of the high-profile nature of the offense it gained a lot of attention both locally, statewide and nationally, and I think the concern is you have a lot of emotion on both sides. They want to keep everyone in check and not make it a complete circus,” Collin County-based attorney Todd Shapiro stated.
The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 1st.
