Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has predicted that the newly announced Board of Trade will help bridge the economic divide with China.
During an interview on Sunday, Greer said the United States is looking to import consumer products and low-tech items that don’t pose a national security threat to the United States.
However, high tech and military equipment was not included in the Board of Trade negotiations.
When asked why the U.S. needs a Board of Trade with China, Greer explained this will help formalize trade ties with the middle kingdom.
“We’ve always had an ad hoc approach with China and the United States, which I think is actually challenging. I think it’s more important to formalize these relations,” Greer stated while on “Face the Nation.”
He said unofficial trade agreements have been too challenging.
Greer said that thanks to the Board of Trade, China reduced several non-tariff barriers on agriculture products for the United States.
