Karmelo Anthony supporters have allegedly sent death threats to the family members of slain high school athlete Austin Metcalf, including disturbing messages expressing that the victim’s twin, Hunter, should have been stabbed as well, according to sources who reached out to TMZ.
Since 19-year-old Anthony’s first-degree murder conviction on Tuesday, reports have circulated online about his supporters threatening violence against the mourning Metcalf family.
The twins were 17 when Anthony entered the boys’ school’s tent during a high school track meet on April 2, 2025. After being asked to leave because he wasn’t part of their team, Anthony fatally stabbed Metcalf after challenging him to come move him himself.
As a result, on Tuesday, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
However, since then, the Metcalf family has received horrific messages sent to their personal phones, according to TMZ.
“Your [sic] just mad bc [because] Austin is no longer living. Should’ve stabbed Hunter too … he f***ed around and found out,” one of the messages allegedly read.
The outlet reported that some Anthony supporters have also threatened to go to the homes of Metcalf family members to instill fear. Police are reportedly aware of the threats and violent messages.
The Metcalf family are not the only individuals targeted by hostility following the high-profile trial. A video recently went viral on social media showing a Black cyclist approaching a White man and woman seated at a public transit stop. In the footage, the cyclist demands to know if the man had served as a juror in the trial — before abruptly striking him in the face.
The victim and his companion immediately defended themselves, shouting that he was a veteran and had no involvement with the jury selection. As the assailant mounted his bicycle to flee the scene, he was captured on camera issuing a parting death threat, telling the victim, “You gonna die.” Local law enforcement has since launched an investigation into the assault.
Another supporter of the convicted killer was also arrested on Tuesday for unlawfully carrying a firearm after video footage surfaced of his aggressive altercation with an older White man outside of the Texas courthouse, where Anthony was found guilty.
Anthony is currently awaiting transfer to state prison to begin his decades-long sentence, though it’s possible for him to get out in as little as 17 years, at age 36. On Wednesday, he filed to appeal the sentence.
